Borno youths demand justice over lopsided NIS, NSCDC recruitments

A group of young individuals from Borno State, who had applied for recruitment into the Nigerian Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), have urged Governor Babagana Zulum and the members of the National Assembly to address what they perceive as biased recruitment practices against Borno State natives in these paramilitary organizations.

The coalition also expressed their gratitude for the support they had received from HRH, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Ibn. Umar El Kaneni. Several months ago, they approached him with their concerns, and he had pledged to pursue justice on their behalf.

The spokesperson for the youth group, Garba Rabiu, held a press conference at the NUJ Press Center in Maiduguri. He stated, "We are Borno State indigenes who applied for recruitment into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in 2022 and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in 2023."

Rabiu went on to explain that they had diligently followed all the steps of the recruitment process, including computer-based tests and physical screenings. Despite their efforts and qualifications, they were left disappointed as their dreams of joining these organizations were shattered due to what they believed were unfair actions taken by influential individuals.

He emphasized that they lacked influential connections that could secure their positions and were disheartened to see individuals who had not even undergone the required tests and screenings getting hired. Out of approximately 450 NSCDC applicants and 250 recruited candidates, and about 400 NIS applicants and 315 recruited candidates, none from Borno State were selected for final documentation or employment.

Rabiu acknowledged the Shehu of Borno's promise to intervene on their behalf and expressed gratitude for his support. However, he made it clear that their fight for justice extended beyond this intervention.

The youth group urged Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, known for his dedication to the welfare of Borno's people, to step in and rectify the situation. They believed his intervention could bring about the necessary change to restore hope for the disadvantaged youths.

Additionally, they appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the alleged injustice and ensure those responsible were held accountable.

In conclusion, the coalition of Borno youths stressed their unity in demanding their rightful opportunities. They had followed every requirement and exhibited unwavering commitment, deserving of fair treatment. They called for rectification of the situation and restoration of faith for all similarly affected youths.

The group commended the House of Representatives for investigating job irregularities in the Federal Character Commission (FCC) and urged them to delve into the root causes of their own situation.
